Please help my friend

This post is not about Iraq, it is about Kenya. A friend of mine is traveling to Kibera in the slums of Nairobi - the worst part of a violent city with a almost a million people living in squalor in a single square mile.

While you sit at home and read blogs or eat delicious food, she will be working not only to directly assist Kenyans during her visit, but to build programs that will offer lasting relief and aide to the people of Nairobi. We will continue to hear of the despair and pain of the African continent on television, the Internet, and the newspaper; and it is our responsibility as a people who regard such luxuries as commonplace necessities to support efforts that improve these area so ravaged by poverty, hunger, and disease.

Jessica will be actively donating her time and money to make a difference in the course of humanity, and I ask you to help her. For all the people that have asked what I "need" or what you can send to me in Baghdad, please consider taking the money that it would cost for you to buy a mailing box, the cost of the things you may decide to fill this box with, and the cost to ship the things to me, then instead donate this amount to Jessica to support her magnanimous efforts.

Please visit Jess' web page at http://www.jessicakenya.info/ and consider making a donation to her worthy cause. Her trip begins in September so she must have it paid for by the end of August, so don't put this off as something you have good intentions of getting back to later.

Realistically, is this a hopeless cause? No. http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/
